This isn’t a DIY post (unless you count the 3 hours it took me to unbox and put these damn things together) but I wanted to share the new stools I just bought for our kitchen island. The stools we had previously were a gift from my grandparents three Christmases ago after we first moved into our house in Arizona. I loved them. They went with all of my furniture and the dark kitchen cabinets in that house perfectly.
When we moved into our current house, I bought two more to fit around our bigger island, because I still loved them. However, slowly my style has been evolving a bit out of the dark black furniture, and into the darker wood tones and dark gray accents. I was starting to feel like the stools just didn’t quite fit right in my style anymore. Plus, this is where my family eats 99.9% of the time, and all the nooks and crannies on those stools were IMPOSSIBLE to clean. I felt like they always looked grimy and it drove me crazy.
So, I’ve been on the lookout for new stools. I briefly considered even making some. But then I spotted these ones at Target and I fell in love. They are kind of modern farmhouse-y like the rest of my style, but with a little industrial flair. They are black, but more of a softer black, in that they look almost more dark gray. And the price is great. $59.99 plus an extra 15% off right now with their current promo code, and an additional 5% off when you use your REDcard. I was able to sell my other stools for $40 each on Facebook buy/sell groups so I didn’t do too bad!
I love that they swivel so that I can adjust the height for my kids. I am a bit worried about how stable these will be for my kids without having the backs on them, but I actually think we may have less accidents with these stools. They were always too trusting of the other stools and would stand on them all the time, more than once toppling the whole stool over. I’m hoping with these they will be forced to be a bit more careful. And best of all, they should be MUCH easier to keep clean with the very simple smooth, flat top.
I started a diet a couple weeks ago and it has had me totally drained and just not in the mood to accomplish much DIY. BUT, I think my body is finally adjusting and I’m ready to get back at it! I have two projects currently in the works: a built-in desk in my loft for the kids, and some shelving in my master closet. I hope to give an update later this week as I get more done!
